Field and Methods Courses

The Department of Anthropology offers many opportunities for undergraduate students to engage in hands-on or experiential learning. We offer both international and local field courses, and several dedicated methods courses each year. In addition, many of our other offerings include elements of experiential learning through lab, tutorial activities or community-engaged learning.

International Field Courses

We periodically offer intensive and immersive field research experiences, providing advanced undergraduate students with the opportunity to participate in original research. These 1.0 credit courses are offered over 4-5 weeks in May-June. Some additional fees apply. In the past we have offered: Field Course in Buenos Aires, Argentina on “The Politics of Food” (2016), Field Course in Environmental Anthropology in Madagascar (2008, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2017), and Archaeological Summer Field School in Peru (2007, 2009, 2011).
