WAGS Annual Graduate Student Conference
The 3rd Annual Graduate Student Conference at Western University: Confronting Categories - Friday, March 6 - Sunday, March 8, 2015
The theme for this year's conference is "Confronting Categories." This conference will provide graduate and undergraduate students the opportunity to reflect critically on how “categories” influence their own research, as well as broader academic and applied contexts.
The conference will kick off with our silent auction, beginning at 11:00am in room 3330 on Friday, March 6. Please stop by to check out the anthropology-related items! We will be accepting cash or cheque, and for each bid you will be entered into a draw for a hospitality services & grad club gift card.
We are excited to announce our keynote speaker, Dr. Chris Krupa of the University of Toronto. Dr. Krupa is a political anthropologist who is interested in capitalism, the state and political violence, focusing on Latin America. For more information on Dr. Krupa, and his keynote address please click here.
Congrats to the winner of our conference travel bursary! Daniel Ruiz-Serna of McGill University has been selected based on his abstract for his paper entitled: "Enchanted forests and contested identities: Peasant societies in Northwest Amazonia". The criteria was based on relevance to the conference themes, readability/clarity, quality of ideas/thesis, and was awarded to a student traveling from outside of the London-area.
Registration for the conference is now open! Registration is free, but we ask that you please indicate your attendance at the conference to us by Friday, February 27, 2015. The link to registration is here:
